Glauco Taranto received B.Sc degree in 1988 from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, M.Sc. degree in 1991 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and Ph.D. degree in 1994 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA, all in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Systems. 

Since 1995, he has been with the Electrical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro/COPPE, Brazil, where he is currently a Professor. In 2006, he was a visiting fellow at CESI (Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano), Milan, Italy. Prof. Taranto has supervised 15 Ph.D. Theses and 54 M.Sc. Dissertations. He is the chairman of the Power System Stability Subcommittee of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, and the chairman of the Task Force on “Integrating Relays Modeling with Electromechanical Simulations”. He is member of the steering committee of the International Conference on Smart Grid Synchronized Measurements and Analytics (SGSMA), and member of the technical program committee of the Power System Computation Conference (PSCC). He was the chairman of four Workshops on PMU Applications held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 2013 to 2016. He is editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.
