Local Area Information
Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland, one of the eight states and territories of Australia.
Area
The centre of Brisbane is situated inside a bend of the Brisbane river, standing on the site of the original European settlement.
Language
English, while approximately 18% of households speak a language other than this.
Population
The estimated population of brisbane is 2.2 million (2013). Almost 30 % were born overseas.

Entry Visa
All travellers other than Australian citizens require a visa to enter Australia. Please consult the Department of Immigration’s website http://www.immi.gov.au for further information.
Currency
The Australian dollar is the official currency. It is currently trading at around 0.75-0.80 cents to the US dollar. Major credit cards are widely accepted and ATM facilities are widespread.

Dress
Light suits and dresses are appropriate for business attire. An umbrella may also be useful during the summer. A sweater is recommended for indoors, especially in summer months when restaurants tend to turn up their air conditioners.
Climate
The climate of Brisbane is sub-tropical. Average temperature for November is between 18 – 28 degrees Celsius.
Health
Please check with current health regulations with carrier when making reservations. Visitors are strongly advised to purchase travel insurance to meet any unexpected costs of emergency care while in Australia.

Communication and Mobile Phone Network

Transportation
The conference centre is located on the South Bank of Brisbane, on the other side of the river from the central business district. Transportation To / From the Airport
Taxi ranks are located near to the arrivals lounge of both international and domestic airport terminals. A train runs directly between the two airport terminals into the city centre and past the convention centre. As of March 2015 a single adult fare cost $17.
