Sétif City, alternately referred to as Setifis or Zdif, derives its name from “black soil” and serves as the capital of the highlands region in eastern Algeria. The Archaeological City of Cuicul, also known as “Djemila,” is situated in the northeastern part of Sétif, standing at an elevation of 900 meters above sea level. Covering an expanse of approximately 42 hectares, this historic site was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1982. Its origins trace back to the reign of Roman Emperor Nerva, specifically around 96 and 97 AD.
