Elektro Ljubljana – DSO (Ljubljana)

We cordially invite you to organized technical tour to company Elektro Ljubljana (DSO) which will be held in the premises of company on Monday, 10. October 2016 between 14:00 – 15:00.

The technical tour is for free, but the spaces are limited to 25 so hurry up with the registration (first come, first served).

Elektro Ljubljana is the largest electrical distribution company in Slovenia which provides a reliable, safe, quality and sustainable electricity distribution system by combining the most advanced services from the field of power supply. By providing efficient, innovative and comprehensive solutions in the field of power supply Elektro Ljubljana remains the leading partner in the development of energy industry at the national and local level.

The technical tour will consist of 2 presentations, the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) managed by Cybergrid platform and a HybridVPP4DSO project in which company is actively involved. In the first part of the presentation the company representative will have a brief presentation about the company and VPP managed by Cybergrid platform which is now third year in a row used for providing the tertiary reserve to TSO. The flexible power of the VPP has increased from 12 MW in the first year to currently used 15 MW. In the VPP pool they combine a wide range of flexible consumers from diesel generators to paper factories and manufacture of building materials. During exposition technical requirements needed for connection to the VVP and the whole operation process of the VPP will be presented. At the end some real cases of customers’ response on activation will be demonstrated.

In the second part a company representative will present their project HybridVPP4DSO (Hybrid virtual power plants for Distribution System Operator) which combines market and grid-oriented approaches. The concept of a hybrid VPP include power generators, transmission network operators, retailers and consumers (industrial and commercial). The main goal of project is to ensure better coordination of electricity generation from renewable sources and user-side measures, which leads to stabilization of the whole electricity system.

ELES and EIMV (Ljubljana)

ELES is Slovenian Transmission System Operator.

Elektroinštitut Milan Vidmar (Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute) – EIMV – is Slovenian engineering and scientific research organization acting in the area of electric power engineering. The Institute is an institution with tradition, established in 1948. From the economic and technological perspective, it addresses issues of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. It releases feasibility and implementation studies, expert reports, makes technological, environmental and other analyses, inspects quality and operation of electric power systems and facilities as required by electric power utilities, ministries, as well as national and regional authorities. The institute carries out R&D projects on EU (Horizon 2020) and regional levels with various level of sophistication from idea to its realization.

During the technical tour at Eles and EIMV (location Hajdrihova 2, Ljubljana) following systems will be presented:

* SUMO – a system for assessing real-time and near future transmission lines capacities based on atmospheric conditions for N and N-1 topology,

* DTR algorithm test site,

* System SCALAR – a lightning localization system and related smart grid services.

SUMO SYSTEM (ELES)

The key goal of a SUMO project was to establish a system for assessing real-time and near future transmission lines capacities based on atmospheric conditions for N and N-1 topology. One of the key features of SUMO is that the line transmission capacity is determined dynamically based on atmospheric condition along the whole line. In the planning phase, it was decided that SUMO should be constructed in a way that would allow for seamless integration of different hardware and software solutions from different vendors. For this reason, SUMO is built around the SUMO BUS integration platform that offers integration of different technological solutions. SUMO BUS represents a hub where exchange of current line loading, current and forecasted weather data along the line corridors, line loading forecasts for N and N-1 topology, DTR (DLR) calculations, alarms on exceptional weather conditions and other important data takes place. As of December 2013 SUMO has been trial running at 4 power lines. In December 2015 additional 17 power lines and one phase shift transformer were added to the system.

DTR ALGORITHM TEST SITE (EIMV)

For the purpose of evaluating the accuracy of available DTR algorithms that are commonly used by transmission system operator (e.g. CIGRE, IEEE), a reference testing site was developed for an uncertainty evaluation of the variety of dynamic thermal rating algorithms that are commonly used by transmission system operator. Although developers put their great effort to improve the algorithms there exists differences between them and the uncertainty of results is almost unknown. To evaluate the data the standard power line conductors AlFe-240/40 and AlFe-490/65 are used in the test site in form of current loops. Each loop is equipped with the temperature sensors and is powered to reach the thermal limit temperature. An adaptive fuzzy control governor supervises and maintains the constant conductor core temperature in different ambient weather conditions. The needed current is therefore used as a ground-truth data and is the reference thermal current in the given ambient weather conditions for the further analyses.

SCALAR SYSTEM (EIMV)

SCALAR is a lightning localization system, which has been in the operation since 1997. From the beginning, the system has been developed taking into account the needs of transmission and distribution system operators, especially in field of power system operation, planning and maintenance. The users of the system have required a very high level of efficiency and availability of delivering lightning data and related services. One of the most advanced service is the object outages correlator, which correlates in real-time object outages (e.g. overhead powerlines, electrified railway tracks) and flash strokes allowing operators in control centres fast clarification of the outage cause and in case of a permanent failure helps the maintenance crew by giving the geographical and topological information of the strokes location.

Iskraemeco and Iskratel (Kranj)

We cordially invite you to organized technical tour to company Iskraemeco  and Iskratel which will be held in the premises of company on Wednesday, 12. October 2016 between 14:15 – 16:00. Transport from conference venue Congress Centre Ljubljana to Kranj and back will be organized with bus.
