Volunteer Opportunities

Seeking Conference Committee Participants and Facilitators

The ISTAS 2025 Conference Committee is seeking student volunteers from any post-secondary institution to work as Committee Members or Session Facilitators. Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines are welcome. The 2025 IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS25) is an annual conference sponsored by an engineering organization that emphasizes interdisciplinary perspectives and encourages engagement from scholars and practitioners in the humanities, social sciences and related technical fields.

The ISTAS25 theme “AI Evolution & Revolution” invites participation from AI experimenters, academics, and practitioners who are engaged in current activities that impact communities and society. Ethics, sustainability, equity, and social values are other key topics to address. Through this theme, we seek to foster cross-functional information sharing and collaboration to advance technological innovation and partnerships that ask the right questions to continue seeking answers consistent with principles related to “stewardship” and “responsibility.

The time commitment for Session Facilitators is approximately 5 hours, and the position entails:

  • Participating in a 1-hour training session (Dates TBD);
  • Attending 2-3 paper sessions at ISTAS25 (90-minutes each) to:
    • Monitor the Zoom chat and conference platform message board;
    • Connect participants and attendees with the platform’s tech support service, as needed.

Volunteers will be able to select the sessions they wish to facilitate (sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis), and will receive:

  • Guaranteed free registration for the conference
  • First access to sign up for Student Mentoring Sessions with leading scholars in issues of tech, ethics, and equity.

This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in an interdisciplinary community and gain experience with virtual conference management and logistics!

If you are interested in volunteering, please check back in early April.
