50 Years of IEEE – Friday 8th July 2022, 4.00 – 4.40pm

This year (2022) marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of IEEE Australia Section (1972), which later became the New South Wales Section (1985).

Formal IEEE involvement occurred when there was only one Section in Australia, aptly called the ‘Australian Section’.

The first meeting of IEEE Australian members was organised by James J. (Jim) Vasseleu in early 1972 and held at the Cell Block Theatre, Darlinghurst NSW. It was agreed, by those attending, that the formation of an Australian Section would be highly desirable and Mr Vasseleu should proceed with the preparation and submission of a petition. Mr Len Clemenson, Jim Vasseleu, Reg Ryan, Phil Amos, Allan James and Les Port were a signatories to the Australia Section formation.

This was the start of only the beginning and from the Australia Section, many other sections were formed. In December 1985, in response to the earlier creation of the Victorian Section, the Australian Section was renamed the New South Wales Section and the Australia Council was formed.

To find out more about the history of the NSW Section and to gain an insight into the many achievements and milestones, this is the session for you. It is a way to connect with history and many Life Members.

This session will be presented by Ramutis Zakarevicius
