ABSTRACT:
Scientific thinking means to think about science’s substance and the mechanics that run through it. Scientific thinking enables us to understand the universe around us based on evidence, logic, and evaluation. Dr. Irene Samy Fahim will illustrate scientific thinking steps and how they would facilitate your career. Dr. Irene is Associate Professor of ISEM Academic Program-Nile University, The Lead Volunteer – IEEE, and executive committee member for capacity building (EYAS).

BIO:
Dr. Irene Samy is an associate Professor, Industrial and Service Engineering and Management department, Nile University Cairo, Egypt. She is the leader for the industrial and manufacturing track in the Smart Engineering systems research center, Nile University.   She won the state encouragement award for women 2021. 

Irene participated in Fulbright Junior Faculty program for renewable energy, 2016 and participated in Entrepreneurship and leadership Program, 1000Women, Goldman Sachs,2016. She got Newton Mosharfa institutional link award for two years in collaboration with Nottingham University, UK. for manufacturing plastic bags from natural materials where she got acknowledged by Mr President El-SISI for her work at the 3 rd national youth conference in Ismailia , April 2017.  Irene is interested in studying the sustainability concept and she was a co-author of a book entitled “Sustainability and Innovation”, AUC press, 2015. Irene is a volunteer in IEEE Smart Village committee and active member in the organizing committee for IEEE Conferences such as IEEE Power Africa 2017, where Irene plans to extend the IEEE smart village committee in Egypt to supply solar electricity in poor villages. She is also one of the members in the Events Committee of the IEEE Humanitarian Activities, 2018. She is also the technical chair for the first IEEE SIGHT Egypt ideation camp 2018. Read more

BIO:
Heba Labib, PhD is the Director of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness Center, IECC, at Nile University. She is also the director of NilePreneurs, a nationwide initiative to support startups and SMEs through capacity building, incubation, and innovation support. From 2014 through 2016, she has managed the Technology Commercialization and Industry Relations Office at Nile University. From 2011 through 2014, she was the founder and executive director of NU100, a nationwide entrepreneurship initiative for techpreneurs who have developmental ideas. The initiative resulted in the establishment of 18 companies. In 2007, Ms. Labib had partnered in setting up Palm Paper, a waste paper recycling mill, where she had played multiple roles in procurement operations and logistics and later in product development and establishing the company’s sales operations. In 2004 Ms. Labib started Nile’s Gift, a company that processes and exports “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants”. Ms. Labib has won several entrepreneurship awards for the aforementioned businesses from Arab Business Challenge in 2007 in UAE, Business in Development Challenge in 2006, Netherlands, and the Shell “Intelaqah for Best Business Idea” Award in 2005 in Oman. She has also and participated in several Entrepreneurship seminars. Prior to the aforementioned ventures, Ms. Labib’s experience includes diligent studies on utilization of rice straw waste to convert to MDF and conducting a research study for the FAO on the “Gender Roles in the Production of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants”. Heba Labib holds a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oakland University, MI, and later she shifted to the field of Management of Technology, with MSc and PhD from Nile University, Egypt.

TOPIC 4: Infographics and data visualization as ways of communication for media, business, and academia

Infographics and data visualization have become more common in the last years; they may be seen on websites and blogs, shared on social channels, or used as ways of communication for media, business, and academia. Most importantly, infographics allow you to communicate your thoughts in a way that makes your points of view easier to be understood and remembered.

BIO:
Professor Emeritus of Water Resources Management, executed many national and international projects with organizations from Egypt, Canada, USA, Germany, Sweden, the World Bank, the Nile Basin and the EU. He has a vast research, teaching and training experience in the areas of water resources, hydro politics, computer modelling, operation research, soft skills and intercultural communication.

BIO:
Peter NAGY has been the Operations Director (2005-today) at the Scientific Association for Infocommunications (HTE, the Hungarian IEEE Communications Society Sister Society). Mr. NAGY was involved in 40+ scientific and business-oriented conferences in various positions.
Mr. NAGY holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME in 2000) in Hungary. He was a State scholar at TU-Vienna, Austria (1998). He finished his Master of Business Administration studies in Budapest (2005), which included a series of intensive special courses maintained by the State University of New York Buffalo (USA) and Rochester Institute of Technology (USA).
Mr. NAGY is the publisher of the Infocommunications Journal (HU ISSN2061-2079) and was a Guest Editor of IEEE Communications Magazine in August 2013 (Quantum Communications). He is involved in promoting high quality Journal and Conference papers.
Mr. NAGY was a member of the Supervisory Board of Finatech Capital Ltd, a venture capital company which invested mostly in the ICT sector (2013-2019).
In IEEE he had several conference and/or finance related roles in the past years. He is currently the Vice-Chair Technical Activities of IEEE Region 8.
