Call for papers

The SCCIC’20 – 2nd IEEE International Conference on Smart Cities and Communities aims on bringing together researchers of various disciplines such as social sciences, life and earth sciences, exact and applied sciences and computer science, in order to shape a new scientific and cultural paradigm for smart cities and communities in Africa.

Major topics of the conference are:

 

  • Smart Cities and Smart Communities
  • IoT and sustainability
  • Cloud Computing and big Data for Urban informatics
  • Application Scenarios and Real-world Deployments for Smart Cities in Africa IoT
  • Applications for Smart Rural Communities.

We are pleased to invite you to submit your papers to SCCIC’20. All submissions will be reviewed on the basis of relevance, originality, importance and clarity.

THEMES

The 2nd IEEE International Conference on Smart Cities and Communities will include a highly selective program of technical papers, accompanied by panel discussions and keynote presentations. We welcome high quality papers that describe original and unpublished research papers addressing the real issues, challenges and needs in building smart cities for now and future on the following technical areas of (but not limited to) smart cities and communities.

  • Smart entrepreneurship and new business models
  • E-government
  • E-infrastructures
  • E-services
  • Environment and Urban Monitoring
  • Smart City Governance
  • Civic engagement (government, health care, sports, etc.)

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality original papers via the EDAS submission site. All submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. The papers should be written in English and formatted according to IEEE conference template.

Conference content will be submitted for inclusion into IEEEXplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.

Paper contests will include a Conference Best Paper Award and a Best Student Paper Award.

TYPES of SUBMISSIONS

The following type of submissions will be considered:

 

  • Technical paper: Finished or consolidated R&D works, to be included in one of the Conference themes. These papers should not exceed 10 pages.
  • Experience report: Experience reports that show practical implementation experience, including case studies, focused on a specific topic of the conference. These papers should not exceed 4 pages.
  • Posters: Initial work with relevant ideas, open to discussion. Submissions comprise an extended abstract of not more than two pages, excluding references, but including all text, appendices, and figures and an A0 (841 mm width x 1189 mm height) size poster.

Submitter papers and posters must be written in English, must not have been published before, not be under review for any other conference or publication and not include any information leading to the authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations and bibliographic references should not be included in the version for evaluation by the Program Committee. This information should only be included in the camera-ready version, saved in Word or Latex format and also in PDF format. Posters should be submitted in PDF format. These files must be accompanied by the Consent to Publication form filled out, in a ZIP file, and uploaded at the conference management system.

All submissions will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least three members of the Program Committee.

The best poster submissions will be invited to give short presentations in a session during the main conference.
