ABSTRACT

Internet of Things (IoT) is playing a vital role in shaping today’s technological world and our daily lives. By 2025, the number of connected devices because of IoT is estimated to surpass 75.44 billion. The notion of sensing, processing, communicating and actuating provides a range of unprecedented opportunities to address many challenges in the world. It is a challenging task to discover, integrate and interpret processed big data from such ubiquitously available heterogeneous and active nature of the resources and devices. In this talk, we will see how artificial intelligence in Big Data analytics can be leveraged across a spectrum of IoT application areas for creating value and improved decision-making.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr Aravinda S Rao is a Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne and the Theme Coordinator of Internet of Things Sensors (Construction Tech) at Building 4.0 CRC. His primary research interests are in Internet of Things, Computer Vision and Machine Learning. His research focuses on designing intelligent IoT systems and algorithms for real-time applications by harnessing the power machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). He is an expert in designing computer vision algorithms to analyse crowd behaviour from surveillance videos, such as to detect suspicious activities, count people and track human movements. He has extensive experience in designing and deploying IoT systems for real-time Smart City applications, including urban canopy cover monitoring, noise monitoring and water quality management.
