ABSTRACT
The human genome project, along with sequencing projects of other organisms, has given us an unprecedented wealth of biological data. In order to fully realise the potential of these huge data sets, we need robust data analysis techniques and software tools. The branch of computational science which is responsible for the development of methods and software tools to analyse the genomic data is called Bioinformatics. It is an interdisciplinary field which combines computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, and biology. It has applications in numerous fields mainly drug discovery, personalised medical treatments, gene therapy, crop improvement, and also climate change studies.
In this workshop, we will introduce the participants to the field of Bioinformatics. This is followed by algorithmic development in Python to extract hidden messages from genomic data.
