13:30 | 15:00 | Tech session 6A: Living Labs and Hardware test facilities Chair: Thomas Strasser, AIT Meeting room 6 Renewable energy sources are key enablers for a sustainable energy supply of the future. The intermittent behaviour of them and their limited storage capabilities present new challenges to power system operators in maintaining power quality and reliability. However, the increased availability of advanced automation and communication technologies has also provided new intelligent solutions to these challenges. Previous work has presented various new methods to operate highly interconnected power grids with corresponding components in a more effective way. As a consequence of these developments the traditional power system is transformed into a cyber-physical system, a smart grid. The goal of this panel is to discuss the importance of living labs and research facilities in the development and validation of smart grid systems. Panelists:

Tech session 6B: Education and training in smart grids and smart cities Chair: Prof. Johan Driesen, KU Leuven Coordinated by the European University Association Auditorium Panelists in this session will focus on education and training needs and innovative teaching methods for smart grids and cities. Panelists will actively engage with the audience and challenge them to reflect on interdisciplinary skills for tackling the energy transition from a holistic perspective (addressing technical, societal, entrepreneurial, market aspects etc.).
