Keynote Speaker: Dr. Michael Bolle

Dr. Michael Bolle has been a member of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH since July 1, 2018. As chief digital office and chief technology officer, he is responsible for the corporate sector for research and advance engineering as well as for the internet of things and digitalization (ID) and data processing (IT). His responsibilities also include the Bosch Software Innovations GmbH subsidiary and the corporate departments for technology, intellectual property, and quality management.

Born in Bergheim, Germany, on May 6, 1961, Michael Bolle is married and has four children. After leaving school in 1981, he studied telecommunications at RWTH University of Aachen, taking his diploma examination in 1986. Under the supervision of Alfred Fettweis, professor for telecommunications in the electrical engineering faculty at the University of Bochum, he was awarded a PhD (Dr.-Ing.) in 1992.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter

Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter (born 1967) has been CEO of Vodafone Germany and member of the global Vodafone Group’s Executive Committee since 1 October 2015.
Born in Salzburg, the reputed telecommunications manager has more than 20 years of telecoms experience in convergent markets and outstanding expertise in marketing and brand management. He played an instrumental role in positioning Vodafone as a gigabit company and restoring growth by introducing increasingly fast speeds, convergent solutions and attractive products that integrate mobile, fixed, internet and TV.
Before joining Vodafone, Dr Ametsreiter served for 6 years as Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Telekom Austria Group, and was also CEO of A1 Telekom, a company created through the merger of Mobilkom Austria AG and Telekom Austria TA AG. He also has longstanding experience in corporate finance.
The Vodafone Germany CEO is married with two daughters.

Keynote Speaker: Peter Riedel

After studying electrical engineering and information technology at the Technical University of Munich and completing various internships at Rohde & Schwarz, Peter Riedel joined the company in June 1991 and first served as a development engineer in the Test and Measurement Division.
From July 1997 to November 2005, he headed a lab, where he was in charge of the development of wireless communications T&M systems. During this time he started developing the cooperation with Rohde & Schwarz Singapore.
In December 2005, he took over as Director of R&D, heading the instruments subdivision, and thus assumed responsibility for the development of instruments in the Radiomonitoring and Radiolocation Division. In 2007 he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of R&S Systems and Communications Asia in Singapore. Under Riedel’s leadership, the setup of the R&D hub of Rohde & Schwarz in Singapore was initiated.
In July 2010, Peter Riedel took over leadership of the Radiomonitoring and Radiolocation Division and became one of the Executive Vice Presidents of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rohde & Schwarz Asia in Singapore.
He has been President and COO of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG since July 2014.

Keynote Speaker: Carsten Ahrens

Carsten Ahrens is Chief Executive Officer of Giesecke+Devrient Mobile Security GmbH. Having completed his studies in electrical engineering, he brings more than 20 years of experience in various management positions in national and international telecommunications and IT companies. Prior to his most recent positions as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of Mobile Security at Giesecke & Devrient GmbH and as CTO of Funkwerk AG, he served over five years as CEO for the telecommunications equipment supplier Ericsson in the German market. His professional career includes building up business units in leading companies such as Atos Origin and Ericsson.

Dr. Bruno Jacobfeuerborn

Dr. Bruno Jacobfeuerborn has been CEO of Deutsche Funkturm (DFMG) since January 2017. In addition, he is CEO of Comfortcharge GmbH since January 2018. He joined what is today Deutsche Telekom AG in 1989. Two years later he became head of department for radio network planning in Hanover and, at the same time, regional head of T-Mobile in Leipzig. In this role, he also managed the planning and development of the mobile communications network in the German regional states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. From 1995 to 1999, he was responsible for the Technology division of the T-Mobile Northern District in Hanover and took on additional responsibility for Sales and Marketing as head of the T-Mobile Northern District in Hanover from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 to 2007, Bruno Jacobfeuerborn was a member of the management team in his capacity as Managing Director of Technology, IT, Procurement and, until 2004, Customer Service at T-Mobile Netherlands in The Hague. At the same time, he headed the International Service Management unit at T-Mobile International. Subsequently, he was a member of the management team and Managing Director of Technology, IT and Procurement at Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa in Warsaw until June 30, 2009. Since July 1, 2009 Bruno Jacobfeuerborn has been responsible for Technology (both mobile and fixed network) in Germany and became Director of Technology at Telekom Deutschland GmbH in April 2010. In addition, Bruno was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Deutsche Telekom from February 2012 until December 2017.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. John Cioffi

CEO – Assia Inc. BSEE, 1978, Illinois; PhDEE, 1984, Stanford; Bell Laboratories, 1978-1984; IBM Research, 1984-1986; EE Prof., Stanford, 1986-present, now emeritus. Cioffi founded Amati Com. Corp in 1991 (purchased by TI in 1997) and was officer/director from 1991-1997. He currently also is on the Board of Directors of ASSIA (Chairman and CEO), Alto Beam, Tinoq, Collinear, and the Marconi Foundation, while serving several advisory boards. Cioffi’s specific interests are in high-performance digital transmission. Cioffi’s recognition includes: IEEE AG Bell, Kirchmayer, and Millenium Medals (2010, 2014, and 2000); Internet Hall of Fame (2014); Economist Magazine 2010 Innovations Award; International Marconi Fellow (2006); Member, US National and UK Royal Academies of Engineering (2001, 2009); IEEE Kobayashi and Armstrong Awards (2001 and 2013); BBWF Lifetime Achievement (2014), IEEE Fellow (1996); IEE JJ Tomson Medal (2000); 1991 and 2007 IEEE Comm. Mag. best paper; and numerous Conference Best-Paper awards. Cioffi has published over 600 papers and holds over 100 patents, of which many are heavily licensed including key necessary patents for the international standards in ADSL, VDSL, vectored VDSL, G.fast, DSM, LTE, Massive-MIMO, and various Wi-Fi methodologies.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Peter Stuckmann

Dr. Peter Stuckmann is managing the European Commission’s policy on 5G communication systems and the related research and innovation programme.
Before his appointment as Head of Unit he was managing the office of the Director General of DG CONNECT, Roberto Viola, coordinating the Commission’s digital policy initiatives. The portfolio included Digital Single Market, Broadband Policy, Telecoms, Media and Online Policy, the Copyright Reform as well as the EU ICT Research and Innovation Programme.
Between 2010 and 2014 he had different roles in the Commission’s telecoms policy Directorate. These included Head of Sector “Spectrum Policy”, penholder of main elements of the Commission proposal on the Telecom Single Market and the Roaming regulation, and the implementation of the EU telecom rules in Germany and Austria.
Between 2005 and 2010 he coordinated the EU R&D programme leading to the 4G mobile communications standards.
Before joining the European Commission in 2004 he has occupied several engineering and management positions in industry, academia and start-ups. He holds engineering and doctoral degrees from RWTH Aachen University, Germany.

Keynote Speaker: Eric Starkloff

As president and chief operating officer, Eric Starkloff leads NI’s global sales, marketing, and R&D organizations. Starkloff and his team are responsible for identifying the markets to drive growth around NI’s leading software-defined platform and aligning the teams to execute on the growth strategy. His experience and leadership have been focused on developing and delivering results driven through strategy built on disruptive technology and informed by customer needs.
Since joining NI in 1997, Starkloff has held many leadership positions, including leading the teams that pioneered industry adoption of systems platforms such as PXI and CompactRIO. Most recently, he served as executive vice president of global sales and marketing (2014–2018). In this role, he led NI’s global sales evolution and a more targeted market strategy focused on growth opportunities in the semiconductor; transportation; and aerospace, defense, and government industries.
Starkloff is a thought leader on topics such as the Internet of Things, 5G communications, and autonomous vehicles. He has served on advisory boards for the Charles L. Brown Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia, the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, and the Wireless Networking and Communication Group at The University of Texas at Austin. He works to contribute to the Austin community and was a founding board member of Urban Roots, an Austin-based sustainable agriculture program that transforms the lives of young people.
Starkloff holds a bachelor’s degree with high distinction in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Muriel Médard

Prof. Muriel Médard is the Cecil H. Green Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at MIT and leads the Network Coding and Reliable Communications Group at the Research Laboratory for Electronics at MIT. She has co-founded two companies to commercialize network coding, CodeOn and Steinwurf. She has served as editor for many publications of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), of which she was elected Fellow, and she is currently Editor in Chief of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. She was President of the IEEE Information Theory Society in 2012, and served on its board of governors for eleven years. She has served as technical program committee co-chair of many of the major conferences in information theory, communications and networking.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Wolfgang Hackenberg

Dr. Wolfgang Hackenberg is Chairman and Speaker of the Board of Management of Nokia Solutions and Networks GmbH & Co. KG and Country Senior Officer, Germany, since October 6, 2017. In addition, he is responsible for all business of Nokia with Deutsche Telekom as the Head of the Global Account Deutsche Telekom – a role he took on July 1, 2017.
Prior to this role, from 2015 until June 30, 2017, he led the West Europe region in Nokia, which included the Nordic and Baltic countries, Poland, Germany, Benelux, France and UK.
Wolfgang joined Nokia (then NSN) in January 2013 as Head of the Global Account Vodafone, leading the company´s business with Vodafone worldwide.
Prior to joining Nokia, he held a number of senior positions with Alcatel-Lucent. His last position was Vice-President for the Vodafone Global Account. Before that, he was based in Shanghai, China, heading the enterprise business of Alcatel-Lucent in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Japan, Asia, India, Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, he ran the enterprise and strategic industries business in Germany.
Before joining Alcatel-Lucent in 2005, he has worked in sales and product management roles with Siemens, Compaq Computers and Cisco Systems, in the enterprise, public sector and telecommunications services provider markets in Germany and Asia.
Wolfgang grew up in Germany and France and holds a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Cambridge, England. In 2017, he relocated with his family from Paris to Munich.

Keynote Speaker: Sebastan Wolf

Sebastian Wolf was born in Crimmitschau, Saxony and right from the beginning he had a great interest in aircrafts, their operation and spotting. Later he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden and deepened his knowledge in aeronautical and aerospace engineering. At the same time, he worked in a local aircraft structure testing company. In the current position as Co-Founder and Head of Airworthiness at FLÜGELaeronautics, he leads the certification process and, as part of the Team, he develops a new and patented type of aircraft: The Mid-Air-Folding Vertical Take-Off Air Taxis.

Keynote Speaker: Volker Ziegler

Volker is an energetic leader with 25+ years of broad and international experience in the telecommunications industry. He is known for his strong commitment to customer and team achievements. Throughout his career he has demonstrated an ability to meet and exceed targets through strong intellectual grasp, excellent leadership skills, and a strong focus on creating new opportunities and business development impact.
In his new position of Beyond 5G (B5G) leadership with Nokia Bell Labs, the industrial research and scientific development arm of Nokia, he leads Nokia digital transformation initiatives aimed at exploring and leveraging innovations with customers and partners in the ecosystem for the B5G era.
In his previous role as Head of 5G Leadership and Chief Architect of Nokia Mobile Networks, Volker played a key role in defining Nokia e2e 5G offering and positioning Nokia strongly in 5G and associated innovation, technologies and architecture. Prior to this, Volker served in Head of Strategy roles of the company and as Head of the North East region, helping gain market share in many key markets, including Scandinavia, Russia and Turkey.
In his 10+ year career with Siemens, Volker has held business unit leadership, finance, sales and marketing, services and R&D global roles and senior positions. He has worked as Information Technology Specialist with the World Bank / IFC in the mid-90s. Volker has started his career as a research scientist with German Aerospace Research / DLR.
Volker holds a Dr.-Ing. and Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universität (TH) Karlsruhe, Germany; he is a graduate of the HBS Executive Development Program. He is a passionate endurance athlete, enjoys reading, playing the guitar and spending time with family. Volker resides in Munich, Germany, is married and has two children.

Keynote Speaker: Jens Struckmeier

Dr. Jens Struckmeier is a physicist, inventor and entrepreneur from Germany. Still a student, he was responsible for the planning of the first passive house in North Rhine-Westphalia, integrating an innovative heating system. Between 2000 and 2003 he worked as a project lead in device and software development in Santa Barbara, USA. From 2004 to 2009 he successfully managed a Nano-biology instrumentation company. In 2009 he started developing water cooling systems for data centers, which lead to the foundation of the Green computing business Cloud&Heat Technologies. Since then, the vision of The Dresden-based company has been to make sustainability the driver of digital innovation. Cloud&Heat develops, builds and operates energy-efficient, green, secure and scalable data centers, meeting the growing demand for distributed and high available IT infrastructures. Jens Struckmeier is not only the driving force behind the company’s hardware development but is also focusing his interests on a variety of other topics, such as data security, AI, AR, VR and Blockchain.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Guido Beckmann

After completing his dissertation at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Dr. Guido Beckmann joined the automation industry at Lenze’s Strategic Development Communication Department. Later, as head of the Safety department, he was responsible for the development of drive-integrated safety functions.
As a control system architect at Beckhoff Automation, he supports international projects with strategic key customers who place particularly high demands on system solutions for optimising their production machines.
Dr. Beckmann is Chairman of the Technical Committee of the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) and responsible for the international dissemination, maintenance and further development of EtherCAT technology. He has been named as an expert in various IEC working groups for the standardisation of industrial communication systems and safety communication protocols, and he is active member of the 5G ACIA initiative, which serves as the central and global forum for addressing, discussing, and evaluating relevant technical, regulatory, and business aspects with respect to 5G for the industrial domain.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Hans-Peter Petry

Dr. Hans-Peter Petry, born 1948, studied Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Saarland, Saarbruecken. He graduated (Diploma and PhD degree) in electrical engineering dealing with low noise synchronous receiver technology. After two years of post-graduate work for the German Research Institute he joined AEG Telefunken, Backnang (later ANT Nachrichtentechnik, Bosch Telecom, Marconi, Ericsson). After several management positions in Engineering dealing with satellite systems, ground stations, terrestrial microwave systems, antennas and traffic guidance systems he became VP Product Management Fixed Wireless Systems in Bosch Telecom, Marconi and Ericsson. In 2006 he left Ericsson and joined Detecon International where he worked as Managing Partner and Head of the Competence Practice Communications Technology mainly dealing with management and technology consulting for broadband mobile networks.

Hans-Peter retired in 2012. He was appointed Member of the Program Committee Communication and Navigation of DLR (German Aerospace Center), joined DeSK in 2011 and was elected President in 2017.

Hans-Peter is author of numerous scientific publications dealing with advanced communication technologies and co-author of Meinke-Gundlach “Taschenbuch der Hochfrequenztechnik”. His hobbies are music (active) and building flight simulators.

Keynote Speaker: Jan Stefan Michels

Dr.-Ing. Jan Stefan Michels is Vice President Standard and Technology Development at Weidmüller, a leading supplier of automation and connectivity solutions. Together with his team, Dr. Michels is engaged in several research and development activities with focus on Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things for future production applications. In this context, Mr. Michels is member of several research-oriented and industry associations (e.g. Plattform Industrie 4.0, 5G ACIA, ZVEI) and leads different collaboration projects together with industry partners, research institutes, and universities. Prior to his engagement at Weidmüller, Dr. Michels was research assistant at Heinz Nixdorf Institute, University of Paderborn, in technology and innovation management.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Magnus Frodigh

Dr. Magnus Frodigh has been Vice President and Head of Ericsson Research since 2018.

Dr. Frodigh was Research Area Director for Network Architecture and Protocols at Ericsson Research from 2007 to 2018 with responsibility for driving long-term technology leadership research in the areas of network architecture and protocols comprising radio, transport and core networks, including network management.

Dr. Frodigh joined Ericsson in 1994 and has since held various key senior positions within Research & Development and Product Management, focusing on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies, and expanding collaborations between with both academia and industries. He holds 29 patents.

Dr. Frodigh was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1964. He holds a Master of Science degree from Linköping University of Technology, Sweden and earned his Ph.D. in Radio Communication Systems from Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr Frodigh is adjunct Professor at Royal Institute of Technology in Wireless Infrastructures since 2013.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Thyaga Nandagopal

Dr. Thyaga Nandagopal is the Deputy Division Director of the Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) Division in the Directorate of Computer & Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at the National Science Foundation. He previously served as a Program Director at the NSF in the Networking Technologies and Systems (NeTS) program, where he managed mobile systems and wireless networking research across multiple funding programs with an annual budget of over $50M. At NSF, he is also leading the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research program, a $100M effort announced in July 2016. He also serves as the co-chair of the Wireless Spectrum Research and Development Senior Steering Group (WSRD SSG), which co-ordinates spectrum-related research and development activities across the Federal government. He is an IEEE Fellow, and holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Keynote Speaker: Tim Hentschel

Hentschel received his Ph.D. from the Technische Universität Dresden in 2001. He co-founded Signalion in 2003, a pioneering test and measurement supplier for LTE radio equipment. As a managing director, Tim co-managed the successful growth of Signalion. After the acquisition by National Instruments, Tim continued to co-manage the Dresden site while holding different positions at National Instruments in product marketing as well as innovation departments. In October 2018 Tim joined the Barkhausen Institut to become a managing director responsible for the operations and daily research execution.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Wen Tong

Dr. Wen Tong is the Huawei Fellow, CTO, Huawei Wireless. Dr. Tong is the head of Huawei wireless research. In 2011, He was appointed the Head of Communications Technologies Labs of Huawei, currently, he spearhead to lead Huawei’s 5G wireless technologies research and development. Prior to joining Huawei in 2009, Dr. Tong was the Nortel Fellow and head of the Network Technology Labs at Nortel. He joined the Wireless Technology Labs at Bell Northern Research in 1995 in Canada.
Dr. Tong was elected as a Huawei Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. He was the recipient of IEEE Communications Society Industry Innovation Award for “the leadership and contributions in development of 3G and 4G wireless systems” in 2014 and IEEE Communications Society Distingushed Industry Leader Award for “pioneering technical contributions and leadership in the mobile communications industry and innovation in 5G mobile communications technology” in 2018.

He had pioneered fundamental technologies from 1G to 5G wireless with more than 420 granted US patents. Dr. Tong is a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, and he also serves as Board of Director of WiFi Alliance. He is based in Ottawa Canada.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Yuichi Nakamura

Dr. Yuichi Nakamura received his B.E. degree in information engineering and M.E. degree in electrical engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1986 and 1988, respectively. He received his PhD. from the Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems, Waseda University, in 2007. He joined NEC Corp. in 1988 and he is currently a vice president of R&D, NEC Corp. He is also a guest professor of National Institute of Informatics. He has more than 25 years of professional experience in electronic design automation, HPC systems and network systems.

Keynote Speaker: Paul Wheelhouse

Born in Belfast, Paul Wheelhouse was raised in Edinburgh. He has an honors degree in Economics from the University of Aberdeen and an MBA from University of Edinburgh. ‪Paul is a professional economist and, since 1992, had specialised in higher and further education markets, policy evaluation and economic appraisal and impact assessment of capital projects.‬‬
Between May 2011 and September 2012 Paul served on the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee, and the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee. And was the Parliamentary Liaison Officer to the Cabinet Secretary for Parliamentary Business and Government Strategy of the Scottish Government. Previously, between May 2011 and Feb 2012, Paul served as Parliamentary Liaison Officer for the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Environment and the Minister for Climate Change.‬
Prior to taking his Ministerial position Paul was a member of cross-party groups on Epilepsy, Rural Policy, Armed forces Veterans, Funerals and Bereavement, Boating and Marine Tourism and deputy convener of Sport. Paul Wheelhouse was appointed Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy in May 2016.

Keynote Speaker: Peter P. Smyth

Peter P. Smyth has led his own consultancy company from 2017 after leaving CableLabs. At CableLabs in Colorado, USA, Peter was VP of Core Innovation/Wireless with responsibility for key strategic innovations in both wireless and fixed networks. Prior to leaving British Telecommunications plc in 2013, Peter helped prepare board level papers on the strategy for BT’s successful acquisition of LTE spectrum. In his career with BT, he has held several senior management positions in both research and engineering departments. Peter, and the teams he has led, have been at the forefront of key developments in telecommunications and computer science. These include Community WiFi, Fibre Optics, microwave photonics, infra-red communications and agent-based location services. In June 2011, Peter was awarded BT’s most prestigious award, the Martlesham Medal for Science and Technology, which recognizes people who made significant lifetime contributions to Science and Technology. In June 2010, Peter was awarded the other prestigious award, the BT Gold medal for Innovation for his invention of Open WiFi (Community WiFi) which was launched as BT Fon in 2007. He has been responsible for various world records in fibre optics with over 30 published papers and 7 granted patents with 5 pending.

Peter Rabbeni joined GLOBALFOUNDRIES in October 2012 and brings over 30 years of design/development, field applications engineering, technical sales, business development and marketing experience in the area of RF systems, circuits and technologies. Mr. Rabbeni leads the RF business unit which is responsible for all RF-related technology portfolio, business development and management activities for GLOBALFOUNDRIES.
Peter helped support M&A activity that culminated in the GF acquisition of IBM Microelectronics Specialty Foundry business in 2015. Prior to joining GF, Peter served as WW Business Development Program Director for IBM Microelectronics Specialty Foundry business from 2010 to 2012, where he helped focus the division’s 200mm foundry offerings in capturing silicon content in front end modules and created one of the most successful and profitable design-win periods in the divisions history resulting in more than $3B in long-term revenue and to date shipping over 40B RFSOI-based products for smartphone and WiFi front ends. He joined IBM in 2001 and held various leadership roles in foundry sales and marketing before heading up the business development and strategy responsibility for the microelectronics foundry business unit. Prior to IBM, Peter held various RF systems and circuit design engineering positions at Ericsson, Raytheon and the U.S. Army Millimeter Wave Lab. Peter received his BSEE degree from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1986 and an MSEE from the University of Massachusetts in 1991. He is an alumnus of the IBM Executive Management program and the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford University.
Peter has co-authored several papers and published a number of trade journal articles and blogs and speaks regularly on the trends and developments in the RF and wireless technology space at conferences and consortiums across the world. Mr. Rabbeni is a member of the IEEE.

Philipp von Schierstädt has more than 18 years of experience in the Semiconductor Industry. As Vice President & General Manager of the Radio Frequency & Sensor (RFS) Business at Infineon he has over 8 years shaped RFS to become a leader in sensor solutions and RF systems.
He has held numerous positions within Infineon e.g. being the VP & GM of the Security Solution Business for Payment and Communication as well as for corporate wide strategic programs.
Before joining Infineon he served as senior consultant for board members of Fortune 500 companies in product and strategy development.
Mr Schierstaedt wrote his Master Thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/ USA and holds a Dipl. Ing. in Mechanical Engineering & Economics from the Technical University of Berlin as well as a Master Degree in Economics from the University of St. Andrews/ Scotland.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Fabrizio Granelli

Prof. Fabrizio Granelli is Associate Professor at the Dept. of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) of the University of Trento (Italy), IEEE ComSoc Director for Educational Services (2018-19) and Chair of the Joint IEEE VTS/ComSoc Italian Chapter. He got the national full-professorship habilitation in 2017. He received the «Laurea» (M.Sc.) and Ph.D. degree from the University of Genoa, Italy, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. Since 2000 he collaborates with the University of Trento (Italy), currently as coordinator of the Networking Laboratory. Between 2004 and 2015 for a total of six months, he was visiting professor at the State University of Campinas (Brasil) and in 2016 he was visiting professor at the University of Tokyo (Japan). He was IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer for the period 2012-15 (2 terms), ComSoc Director for Online Content in 2016-17 and Delegate for Education at DISI in 2015-2017.

Prof. Granelli is General Vice-Chair of the First International Conference on Wireless Internet (WICON’05) and General Chair of the 11th, 15th and 18th IEEE Workshop on Computer-Aided Modeling, Analysis, and Design of Communication Links and Networks (IEEE CAMAD ’06 – ’10 – ’13). He is TPC Co-Chair of GLOBECOM 2007-2009 and 2012 Symposia on “Communications QoS, Reliability and Performance Modeling”, TPC Co-Chair of GLOBECOM 2014 Symposium on “Selected Areas in Communications – Green Communications Track” and TPC Co-Chair of IEEE ICC 2018 Symposium on “Green Communications and Networking”. He is TPC Co-Chair of the IEEE NFV SDN 2018 conference. He is author or co-author of more than 200 papers published in international journals, books and conferences. He is Senior Member of IEEE, Associate Editor in Chief of IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, and Area Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking.

Prof. Frank Ellinger graduated at the University of Ulm. From ETH Zürich he received an MBA, PhD and habilitation degree. He heads the Chair for Circuit Design and Network Theory at Technische Universität Dresden since 2006. He coordinates e.g. the BMBF cluster project FAST with more than 90 partners, the DFG Priority Program FFlexCom and the EU projects DIMENSION, ADDAPT, FLEXIBILITY. Frank Ellinger has been with the IBM/ETHZ Competence Center for Advanced Silicon Electronics hosted at IBM Research in Rüschlikon. Frank Ellinger published more than 350 scientific papers, has received several awards such as the Vodafone Innovation Award, the Alcatel Lucent Science Award and an IEEE Outstanding Young Engineer Award, and was an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Henning Schulzrinne

Prof. Henning Schulzrinne, Levi Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. He was an MTS at AT&T Bell Laboratories and an associate department head at GMD-Fokus (Berlin), before joining the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments at Columbia University. He served as chair of the Department of Computer Science from 2004 to 2009, as Engineering Fellow, Technology Advisor and Chief Technology Officer at the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from 2010 to 2017.

He has published more than 250 journal and conference papers, and more than 70 Internet RFCs. Protocols co-developed by him, such as RTP, RTSP and SIP, are used by almost all Internet telephony and multimedia applications.

He is a Fellow of the ACM and IEEE, has received the New York City Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Science and Technology, the VON Pioneer Award, TCCC service award, IEEE Internet Award, IEEE Region 1 William Terry Award for Lifetime Distinguished Service to IEEE, the UMass Computer Science Outstanding Alumni recognition, and is a member of the Internet Hall of Fame.

Keynote Speaker: Mathias Wählisch

Matthias Wählisch is a Junior Professor of Computer Science at Freie Uniersität Berlin and heads the Internet Technologies Research Group. He graduated from Freie Universität Berlin after studying Computer Science and Contemporary German Literature. He received his PhD in Computer Science with highest honors. Matthias is the PI of several national and international projects. Overall, he took responsibility for more than 4.1M EUR grant money. His research and teaching focus on efficient, reliable, and secure Internet communication. This includes the design and evaluation of networking protocols and architectures, as well as Internet topology measurements and analysis.
Matthias authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers. Since 2005, Matthias is active within the Internet standardization, where he published eight RFCs and several Internet drafts. He co-chaired or co-organized more than 35 scientific events, such as IEEE ICNP PhD Forum 2013, ACM ICN 2017, and ACM SIGCOMM 2017. His research results have been distinguished multiple times. Amongst others, he was a winning team member of the IPv6 Application Contest 2009 (10,000 EUR) and received the Young Talents Award of Leibniz-Kolleg Potsdam for outstanding achievements in advancing the Internet. He co-founded some successful open source projects in the Internet of Things (RIOT) and secure Internet routing (e.g., RTRlib), where he is still responsible for the strategic development.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Slawomir Stanczak

Prof. Slawomir Stanczak studied electrical engineering with specialization in control theory at the Wroclaw University of Technology and at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in 1998 and the Dr.-Ing. degree (summa cum laude) in electrical engineering in 2003, both from TU Berlin; the Habilitation degree (venialegendi) followed in 2006. Since 2015, he has been a Full Professor for network information theory with TU Berlin and the head of the Wireless Communications and Networks department. Prof. Stanczak is a co-author of two books and more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers in the area of information theory, wireless communications, signal processing and machine learning.He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing between 2012 and 2015.
Since February 2018 Prof. Stanczak has been the chairman of the ITU-T focus group on machine learning for future networks including 5G.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Wolfgang Kellerer

Prof. Wolfgang Kellerer is full professor and head of the Chair of Communication Networks in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany. His research area covers methods and systems for wireless as well as fixed communication networks. Focus of his work is on network dynamics and flexibility based on Software Defined Networking and Network (Function) Virtualization for various emerging systems including 5G infrastructure, industrial communication and energy networks. In the area of wireless communication his research is targeting machine-to-machine communication for low-delay, high reliability, control-aware wireless network resource management. Before he joined TUM, Wolfgang Kellerer pursued an industrial career being more than ten years with DOCOMO Communications Laboratories Europe GmbH, NTT DOCOMO’s European research institute in Munich, Germany. His last position was head of the research department for wireless communication and networking, contributing to research and standardization of LTE-A and 5G technologies. In 2001 he was a visiting researcher at the Information Systems Laboratory of Stanford University, California, US. He received his Dr.-Ing. degree (Ph.D.) and his Dipl.-Ing. degree (Master) from TUM, in 1995 and 2002, respectively. He has published more than 200 papers in respective journals, conferences and workshops and is inventor of more than 40 patents and patent applications in this area. He currently serves as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, for IEEE Networking Letters and on the Editorial Board of the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials. He also serves as a reviewer for the European Commission and several other research programs. In 2015, he has been awarded with an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Commission for his research project FlexNets “Quantifying Flexibility in Communication Networks”. He is a member of ACM, VDE ITG and a Senior Member of IEEE.

has been head of the Broadband and Broadcast Department at Fraunhofer IIS since 2014. Having attended university in Erlangen and Heidelberg, he graduated with a degree in physics. He then worked as a development engineer for Siemens before joining Fraunhofer IIS in 2000.
Together with partners from both science and industry, Mr. Niemann’s department develops technologies for communication and positioning solutions in 5G networks to bring them into application.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Amitava Ghosh

Dr. Amitava Ghosh is a Nokia Fellow and Head, Radio Interface Group at Nokia Bell Labs. He joined Motorola in 1990 after receiving his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, Dallas. Since joining Motorola he worked on multiple wireless technologies starting from IS-95, cdma-2000, 1xEV-DV/1XTREME, 1xEV-DO, UMTS, HSPA, 802.16e/WiMAX and 3GPP LTE. He has 60 issued patents, has written multiple book chapters and has authored numerous external and internal technical papers. He is currently working on 3GPP LTE-Advanced and 5G technologies. His research interests are in the area of digital communications, signal processing and wireless communications. He is the recipient of 2016 IEEE Stephen O. Rice and 2017 Neal Shephard prize, member of IEEE Access editorial board and co-author of the book titled “Essentials of LTE and LTE-A”.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Andreas Müller

Dr. Andreas Mueller is the Head of Communication and Network Technology in the Corporate Research Department of Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany. In addition to that, he is coordinating the 5G activities of Bosch in the context of Industry 4.0 across the different business units. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of the “5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation” (5G-ACIA), which has been established in order to make sure that 5G for the industrial domain becomes a success. This is done by providing a global forum for discussing related technical, regulatory and business aspects and by brining all relevant stakeholders together.
Prior to joining Bosch, Andreas was a Research Staff Member at the Institute of Telecommunications of the University of Stuttgart, Germany, where he was contributing to the further development of the 3GPP Long Term Evolution towards LTE-Advanced. Besides, he was working as a Systems Engineer for Rohde & Schwarz, developing a novel software-defined radio based communication system for the German Armed Forces. Andreas holds a German Diploma degree as well as a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (with distinction) and a M.Sc. degree in Information Technology, all from the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Dr. Chih-Lin I received her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. She has been working at multiple world-class companies and research institutes leading the R&D, including AT&T Bell Labs; Director of AT&T HQ, Director of ITRI Taiwan, and VPGD of ASTRI Hong Kong. She received the IEEE Trans. COM Stephen Rice Best Paper Award, is a winner of the CCCP National 1000 Talent Program, and has won the 2015 Industrial Innovation Award of IEEE Communication Society for Leadership and Innovation in Next-Generation Cellular Wireless Networks. In 2011, she joined China Mobile as its Chief Scientist of wireless technologies, established the Green Communications Research Center, and launched the 5G Key Technologies R&D. She is spearheading major initiatives including 5G, C-RAN, high energy efficiency system architectures, technologies and devices; and green energy. She was an Area Editor of IEEE/ACM Trans. NET, an elected Board Member of IEEE ComSoc, Chair of the ComSoc Meetings and Conferences Board, and Founding Chair of the IEEE WCNC Steering Committee. She was a Professor at NCTU, an Adjunct Professor at NTU, and currently an Adjunct Professor at BUPT. She is the Chair of FuTURE 5G SIG, an Executive Board Member of GreenTouch, a Network Operator Council Founding Member of ETSI NFV, a Steering Board Member of WWRF, the ComSoc Rep of IEEE 5G Initiative, a member of IEEE ComSoc SDB, SPC, and CSCN-SC, and a Scientific Advisory Board Member of Singapore NRF. Her current research interests center around “Green, Soft, and Open”.

Keynote Speaker: Fisseha Mekuria

Dr. F. Mekuria, Chief Research Scientist, CSIR, South Africa. He has a PhD from Linköping University, in Sweden, and has worked for 10 years as Senior research Engineer at Ericsson Mobile Communications R&D lab in Sweden, and is author of 17 US/EPO patents. He has published over 80 peer reviewed publications, and working with mobile and internet service industry directed the setting up of next generation network labs, development of mobile applications programming courses, Network resource sharing for affordable broadband connectivity, and development of telecom regulatory frameworks and capacity building for telecom regulators in Africa. At present he leads the 5G and Affordable Broadband Networks research at the CSIR. He is the proponent of a 4th leg for the 5G standards aimed at technologies for addressing the next billion unconnected population and promoting digital inclusion. His research interests include 5G technology research for dynamic spectrum sharing, smart spectrum toolboxes for 5G and extension to 5G unlicensed networks to support affordable broadband internet for all. He is involved with design of 5G test-beds for enabling innovative service development and accelerate a smooth migration to 5G. He is a member of advisory board for a number of EU FP7 projects and a Judge for the GSMA global mobile awards in support of Green technologies in future wireless networks and fulfilment of UN sustainability goals. Dr Mekuria is also involved in postgraduate research & development in wireless communications with a number of African universities through his engagement as Adj. Professor at the University of Johannesburg, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Science, South Africa.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Michael Peeters

A passionate leader with a background in both research and strategy, Dr. Ir. Michael Peeters is Program Director Connectivity+Humanized Technology at imec. Michael has been identifying and implementing state-of-the art technology opportunities in telecommunications through a career that spans two decades.

Both as Head of the Nokia Incubator and the Innovation Portfolio at Nokia, as well as CTO for the Wireless Division at Alcatel-Lucent, his role required him to make sense out of the uncertainty that exists when technological possibilities have to be balanced with business case realities. His team’s responsibility: to see beyond the business analysis and help customers envision how emerging technologies and trends, such as 5G and AI, will impact their networks and end-user community.
Prior to his role as CTO for the Wireless Division, he was CTO for the Wireline Division. The team looked beyond the product roadmap and identified what new trends, technologies and tools were on the horizon and determined how those future opportunities fit into the Alcatel-Lucent pipeline. It was also during this period that the business commercialized VDSL2 Vectoring, an idea conceived 7 years earlier while leading the Bell Labs Access Nodes and DSL Technology department.
He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, many white papers and holds patents in the access and photonics domains. Michael earned a Ph.D. in Applied Physics and Photonics from Vrije Universiteit Brussel as well as a master’s degree in Electrotechnical Engineering.
Outside of work, Michael is passionate about cooking and continues to refine the recipe for the perfect lasagna, balanced by bouts of long-distance running to offset the caloric intake inherent with such a quest.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Norman Franchi

Dr. Norman Franchi studied (Dipl.-Ing., 2007) and received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing., with honors, 2015, at the Institute for Electronics Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Robert Weigel) in Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EEI) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University (FAU) Erlangen-Nuremberg. From 2007-2011 he worked in the automotive industry as a development and systems engineer with a focus on testing and development of Networked Control Systems before returning to the university in 2012. In 2013 he established the interdisciplinary laboratory for Embedded Wireless Systems at the FAU in Erlangen. From 2014 to 2017, he was the project leader of the BMBF research projects fast-realtime. Since 2015, he has been senior research group leader at the Vodafone Chair (Prof. Gerhard Fettweis) at the TU Dresden and head of research work on industrial 5G networks at the 5G Lab Germany. Since then, he has been researching new strategies and concepts for the implementation of real-time industrial radio networks, both for mobile radio networks (4G and 5G) and for local radio networks (e.g. based on WLAN). He was and is mainly involved in the BMBF-funded projects BZKI, proWiLAN, FIND, TACNET 4.0 and 5G NetMobil. He is the coordinator of the 5G Experimental Field for Agriculture and Forestry in Saxony (since 2018) and Managing Director of 5G Lab GmbH in Dresden since the beginning of 2019.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Wolfram Drescher

Wolfram currently holds a senior position at Xilinx. He co-founded and led Dresden-based Airrays, and previously co-founded Systemonic, which was later acquired by Philips, as well as Blue Wonder Communications, which was acquired by Infineon and later by Intel. Wolfram was also CEO and advisor of start-up Silectra, developer of a “cold split” technology for SiC wafers. The company was acquired by Infineon in 2018. Wolfram holds a Doctorate Degree and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Technische Universität Dresden.

 

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Ralf Irmer

Dr. Ralf Irmer is Chief Innovation Architect at Vodafone Germany. He is driving innovation where 5G and new technology can revolutionize business verticals – such as railways, automotive, Industry production, robotics, drones etc. Before joining Vodafone Germany for the spectrum auction in 2015 Ralf was 10 years in R&D at the global Vodafone Headquarters in Newbury, UK. Here he had initiated and led the first 5G programme within Vodafone and was for example one co-author of the NGMN white paper on 5G. Ralf holds a PhD from Dresden University of Technology and has co-authored more than 40 papers and holds numerous patents.

Fouad El Mernissi is a Business Development Manager for AXIANS (Vinci Energies Group). I joined AXIANS in 2008 after receiving a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ESTP Paris and The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH).
Since joining AXIANS I worked on multiple Telecom Infrastructure Roll Out in France (CSPs’ Fixed Backbone, FTTx, 3G/4G Radio Access Network, etc.) and know currently working on the development of 5G activities at AXIANS in different countries.

Keynote Speaker: Horst Fellner

Horst Fellner leads Spirent’s 5G Mobile Network business in EMEA in a crossover position that includes sales, product management and system architecture aspects. He also drives the Academia and Research market segment in EMEA. With over twenty years experience, he works closely with key industry players and other experts to develop the understanding of new technologies and their implications on future networks, applications and customer behaviour.
Horst is passionate about solving the challenges linked with fast technological developments and pushing the associated solutions into the market. His technology focus includes 5G, LTE, WiFi and typical applications such as IoT,V2x, Smart Cities.
A frequent participant at industry events, Horst has gathered a deep understanding of all aspects of a mobile network, having previously held roles at organisations such as Rohde & Schwarz and Nortel Networks. Horst holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences, Darmstadt.

Raik Hoffmann is the project coordinator of the new “Living Lab” of Deutsche Bahn. After studying at Dresden University of Technology and University of New Orleans he worked at several ETCS projects in test and homologation management in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Saudi-Arabia, Qatar and UAE.

 

Keynote speaker: Wim Rouwet

Wim Rouwet has a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He spent 15+ years in Motorola, Freescale and NXP in networking and network processing, wireless algorithm development, system and modem architecture. His focus is on 3GPP LTE and 5G as well as 802.11 processing stacks and their implementation. In this role, he has been responsible for 4G and 5G stack development, small cells, and CRAN implementations associated with many wireless infrastructure projects. He has lead key next generation R&D projects including multi-standard modem architecture, virtualization and 5G small cell as well as CPE products.

Dr. Yankin Tanurhan, Vice President Engineering, DesignWare Processor Cores, IP Subsystems, Non-Volatile Memory at Synopsys leading low power and high performance ARC and EV embedded Processor developments targeted from Mobile, IoT, Embedded Vision, Digital Home, Automotive/Industrial, Security to Storage markets, ASIP tool development with products like ASIP Designer and Programmer, IP Subsystems products like Sensor Fusion, Audio, Vision and Security Subsystems and CMOS based Non Volatile IP development. Dr Tanurhan has authored 100+ papers in refereed publications. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rheinisch Westfaellische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Aachen, Germany and a Dr. Ing. degree summa cum laude in Electrical Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (TH) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
