Impact of AI on Medical Imaging and Healthcare

Abstract:

The healthcare industry today is faced with Increasing and aging patient population along with a reduction in skilled labor to treat them. This has led to an increase in need for and efficiency of care. Hence we now see a drive towards preventive, precision and personalized medicine. Today’s needs of the healthcare provider are to be able to offer low-cost preventative care, fast yet accurate diagnosis, precision and personalized treatment all while ensuring a good patient experience.

On the technology front, the last two decades have seen an exponential growth in computational power, storage (Big Data), as well as fast maturing of AI. The ability of the machine to process data far beyond human capacity has funnelled the huge leap in automation. From virtual assistants in the living room to intelligent investment algorithms and from software-based traffic control to autonomous driving – there is no escaping artificial intelligence (AI).

AI is clearly now poised to be the perfect technology to make a tremendous impact on the healthcare industry. Across all medical disciplines, artificial intelligence and machine learning will transform medicine beyond most people’s imagination. Algorithms that help evaluate radiological images are just the beginning. The coming years will see AI impact most if not all aspects of healthcare, from image reconstruction to workflow automation all the way to population health management. AI could become an indispensable tool in all branches of medicine.

Impact of AI on Medical Imaging and Healthcare – The talk will focus on current areas of medical imaging where AI has made inroads, as well as provide a glimpse into the future where AI will take over the repetitive time-consuming activities and free up healthcare professionals to focus on what matters most – the patient.
