Biography
Yinbiao Shu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of the China Society for Electrical Engineering, and the 36th President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Engaged in long-term strategic development of energy and power, power grid operation and power system planning, as well as major engineering construction and key technology research and development in ultra-high voltage and extra-high voltage transmission. His research achievements have promoted the implementation of the “West-East Electricity Transmission” strategy and the interconnection of the national power grid, facilitating the large-scale development and utilization of clean energy. He has been awarded the National Science and Technology Progress Special Award twice, as well as one first prize, and received the 2018 Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award.

Jianrong Tan
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Prof. Jianrong Tan is an expert of mechanical engineering native of Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. From 1985 to 1987, he studied at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and obtained a master’s degree in engineering. In 1987, he was admitted to the Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University, and later received the Ph.D. degree in science. He is the Chair Professor, doctoral supervisor, director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University. He became an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2007.
He is mainly engaged in research of mechanical design and theory, computer-aided design and graphics, digital design and manufacturing. He won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of the 5th National Higher Education Achievement Award. He also received the support from first National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the special allowance from the State Council, and was rated as Young and Middle-aged Talents in Graphics, Leader of Key Disciplines in Zhejiang Province, etc.

An Luo
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Prof. An Luo was born in Changsha, China, in 1957. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial automation from Hunan University, Changsha, in 1982 and 1986, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in fluid power transmission and control from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1993.,Between 1996 and 2002, he was a Professor with Central South University. Since 2003, he has been a Professor with the College of Electrical and Information Engineering, Hunan University, where he also serves as the Chief of National Electric Power Conversion and Control Engineering Technology Research Center. His research interests mainly include distributed generation, microgrid, and power quality. Dr. Luo was elected as the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2015. Also, he has won the highly prestigious China National Science and Technology Awards three times (2014, 2010, and 2006).

Xiaohong Guan
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Biography
Prof. Xiaohong Guan received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Control Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Systems Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1993. He was a senior consulting engineer with Pacific Gas and Electric from 1993 to 1995. He visited the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, Harvard University from Jan. 1999 to Feb. 2000. From 1985 to 1988 and since 1995 he has been with the Systems Engineering Institute at Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xian, China, and was appointed the Cheung Kong Professor of Systems Engineering in 1999, and Dean of School of Electronics and Information Engineering since 2008. From 2001 he has also been with the Center for Intelligent and Networked Systems, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and served as the Head of Department of Automation, Tsinghua University, 2003-2008.
Professor Guan is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is an IEEE Fellow. He has been serving as the Editor of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid since 2014. His research interests include economics and security of networked systems, optimization-based planning and scheduling of electrical power and energy systems, manufacturing systems, as well as cyber-physical systems including smart grids and sensor networks.

Lixin Tang
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Prof. Lixin Tang (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. degree in industrial automation, the M.Eng. degree in systems engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China, in 1988, 1991, and 1996, respectively. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Director of Key Laboratory of Data Analytics and Optimization for Smart Industry, Ministry of Education, China, and the Chair Professor of the Frontiers Science Center for Industrial Intelligence and Systems Optimization (National Platform). He has published many articles in international journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, Operations Research, and INFORMS Journal on Computing. His research interests cover industrial intelligence and systems optimization theories and methods, covering data analytics, and machine learning, deep learning and evolutionary learning, reinforcement learning and dynamic optimization, convex and sparse optimization, integer and combinatorial optimization, and computational intelligence-based optimization. Meanwhile, he applies the above theories to engineering applications in manufacturing, logistics, and energy systems. Dr. Tang’s paper published on IISE Transactions received the Best Applications Paper Award of 2017. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IISE Transactions, Journal of Scheduling, International Journal of Production Research, and Journal of the Operational Research Society. Meanwhile, he is on the Editorial Board of Annals of Operations Research and serves as an Area Editor for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research.

Laibin Zhang
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Prof. Laibin Zhang received the B.E. and M.S. degrees in petroleum mechanical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from China University of Petroleum, Beijing, China, in 1982, 1985, and 1991, respectively. He is currently associated with the College of Safety and Ocean Engineering, China University of Petroleum. His current research interests include fault diagnosis and safety engineering. Dr. Zhang is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Director of the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Safety and Emergency Technology of the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the Vice Chairperson of China Association for Public Safety. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Member of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Sun Yueqi Energy Science and Technology Award.

Chengshan Wang
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Chengshan Wang has a professor chair in Tianjin University since 1996 and is a Chang-Jiang (Cheung Kong) Scholar Professor in Tianjin University. He is the Director of the School of Electrical and information Engineering in Tianjin University since 2014, and the director of Key Laboratory of Smart Grid of Ministry of Education since 2004.
He has been with Cornell University as a visiting scientist from 1994 to 1996 and with Carneigie Mellon University as a visiting professor from 2001 to 2002. He received four Chinese National Awards of Science and Technology respectively in 2004, 2010, 2012 and 2016 for his excellent research works. He is also the gainer of Fok Ying Tung Fund, Excellent Young Teacher Fund of Education Ministry and a winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He is the Principal Investigator of a Chinese National Basic Research Program (973) “Research on the Key Issues of Distributed Generation Systems” from 2009 to 2013. Dr.Wang is a senior member of IEEE, and Fellow of IET, and a member of the national committee of Cired and a member of national committee of Cigre.
His research interest is in distributed generation and microgrids, power distribution system analysis and planning. In recent years, he has published six books and more than 300 papers.

Chi-yung Chung
Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering
Biography
Prof. Chung received the B.Eng. degree (with First Class Honors) and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. He has worked for the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada; Powertech Labs, Inc., Surrey, BC, Canada; the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada; and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. His research interests include smart grid, micro grid, renewable energy, power system stability/control, planning and operation, applications of advanced optimization methods, power markets and electric vehicle charging.
Before rejoining the department, Prof. Chung was a Professor, the NSERC/SaskPower Senior Industrial Research Chair in Smart Grid Technologies, and the SaskPower Chair in Power Systems Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. He was a prominent leader for advancing academic activities and applied research in power systems engineering development in the province of Saskatchewan. He led a research team, supported by SaskPower and NSERC of Canada, to conduct cutting-edge and long-term smart grid research for SaskPower and address critical technical issues associated with smart grid technologies and their applications to real power systems. His research work has not only generated 3 US patents, 3 book chapters and over 170 international journal papers, mostly in well-respected IEEE transactions and IET journals, but has also resulted in successful transference of three new commercial software packages developed for power system analysis. Software package “Small Signal Analysis Tool (SSAT)” developed by him is now being used by over 80 power companies and nearly 90 universities worldwide. He has provided consultancy services to both government agencies and well-known private companies. He is a Fellow of CAE, IEEE, EIC, IET and HKIE, and an IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer. He is also the recipient of the 2021 IEEE Canada P. Ziogas Electric Power Award and 2021 Saskatoon Engineering Society (SES) Educator of the Year Award.
Prof. Chung has also been very active in professional societies. He was the Member-at-Large (Smart Grid) and Member-at-Large (Global Outreach) of IEEE PES Governing Board, the IEEE PES Region 10 North Chapter Representative, and a member of IEEE PES Fellow Evaluation Committee. He was the Past Chairman of the IEEE Hong Kong Section, IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of PES/IAS/PELS/IES and IET Hong Kong PES. He was the General Chair of IEEE EPEC2017 and IEEE PES APPEEC2014, Co-Chair of IEEE TENCON2015, IEEE PES APPEEC2013 and IEEE ICHQP2012, Vice-Chairman of IET APSCOM 2015 and IET APSCOM2012, Technical Chairman of IET APSCOM2009, and Honorary Secretary of IEEE DRPT2004 and IEEE IAS 2005 Annual Meeting.

Yan Zhang
Elected Member, Academia Europaea
Biography
Yan Zhang is currently a Full Professor with the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, Norway. His research interests include next-generation wireless networks leading to 6G, green and secure cyber-physical systems. Dr. Zhang is an Editor for several IEEE transactions/magazine. Since 2018, Prof. Zhang has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics (i.e., Web of Science). He is Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of IET, elected member of Academia Europaea (MAE), elected member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS), and elected member of Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences (NTVA).
