Career Limiting Beliefs: Understanding Emotional Intelligence – Friday 8th July 2022, 4.00 – 4.40pm

In a 2011 Career Builder Survey of more than 2,600 hiring managers and human resource professionals:

-71 percent stated they valued emotional intelligence in an employee over IQ;

-75 percent said they were more likely to promote a highly emotionally intelligent worker over a worker with just high IQ; and

-59 percent claimed they ’ d pass up a candidate with a high IQ but low emotional intelligence.

During the course of ones life many hear and read about intelligence. However, not many people learn about emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is about knowing your own emotions and those of others around you.

Understanding emotions is important because we all need to interact with others every day be it customers, colleagues or management. To progress our career we need to understand how to maximise those interactions and prevent behaviours that may stop us from succeeding. This can hinder ones professional development.

In this session the concept of emotional intelligence will be introduced, and a number of scenarios related to career limiting beliefs will be played out and discussed.

Attendees will leave with greater awareness of their own actions and beliefs to the way we interact with others when we work. This provides a pathway for further development in this area.
