Contests

The student contests of the region are organized by IEEE R9 Student Awards and Recognition Committee – R9 SAC Team. The awards of all competitions take place during the SBRM. 

Sucess Case Contest

Projects with good planning, execution, verification of results and a good conclusion are considered Success Cases – this includes documenting the project to be developed later in the organizational unit or other units of the IEEE in order to disseminate good practices and ideas.
The following categories are considered:
  • Student Branch: includes activities organized by Student Branches;
  • Student Chapter: includes activities organized by Student Chapters;
  • Student Affinity Group: includes activities organized by Student Affinity Groups.

Tisp Contest

The goal of TISP is to increment youth’s interest in choosing engineering as their professional career. The program creates a forum to show the application of engineering, sciences, and math concepts. TISP also facilitates the sharing of real world experiences between creators and local pre-university teachers. 

The following activities are considered for this contest:

  • TISP: Teachers training. This is the program’s goal: to train teachers in TISP methodology and help them make this kind of activities in their classrooms;
  • Hands On: Activities using TISP methodology with students in schools. These activities must be made by sections’ students and volunteers;
  • TISP Training: Training TISP trainers. Training workshops to Section student and professional volunteers willing to train school teachers and students.

Exemplary Affinity Group Regional Student Contest

Those who demonstrate good management of internal and external resources of the institution and, mainly, manage to effectively promote the theme of their affinity group through projects and activities will be considered Exemplary Student Affinity Groups. In addition, the groups must have quality documentation, which can serve for the continuity of the group’s culture and dissemination of good practices and ideas.

Exemplary Technical Chapter Regional Student Contest

Exemplary Student Technical Chapters are those that demonstrate good management of internal and external resources of the institution and, mainly, manage to effectively promote the area of their society through projects and activities. In addition, Exemplary Chapters must have quality documentation, which can serve for the continuity of the group’s culture and dissemination of good practices and ideas.

Photograph Regional Student Contest

A photograph has the enormous power to preserve moments, transmit and encourage ideas and disseminate experiences! The purpose of this contest is to recognize and reward IEEE student units that record their activities and experiences linked to the institution in a creative and innovative way.

The evaluation is done by sending a photograph that must be related to one of the three categories of the contest: photographs of a technical, humanitarian or tourist nature

  • Technique: In this category, photographs are considered where volunteers send records of their projects or experiences where there is dissemination of technical knowledge or technological development;
  • Humanitarian: Includes photographs of activities or moments that have social bias and contribute to improving the quality of life or conditions of the community in which the Student Branch is inserted;
  • Tourist: The IEEE shows us a world of possibilities and places. This category includes photos taken in tourist centers with the symbol of the institution.

IEEE day Regional Student Contest

The purpose of this contest is to encourage the realization of activities in IEEE Day that are innovative and that generate a positive social impact in the communities where there are IEEE organizational units.

Ethics Regional Student Contest

The goal of this contest is to introduce the institution’s code of ethics to IEEE student volunteers and face them to a situation where this code should be applied. During the competition, participants will be tested on their knowledge and application of the IEEE Code of Ethics as demonstrated by student analysis and findings resulting from a study of a theoretical ethics case.

This contest is held during Student Branches Regional Meeting.
