PANEL DISCUSSIONS

                                                                            PANEL DISCUSSION 1

Topic: Gender Equity and Sustainability Development

This panel primarily aims to define the sustainable development in terms of gender equality, how gender equality in micro level to macro level can be achieved, what are the challenges faced in bringing gender equality in different sectors such as power and energy, healthcare, agriculture and education and more importantly how all the stakeholders should work together to achieve gender equality.

                                                                                     Abstract

Gender Equality is named as one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Why is gender balance considered to be important for sustainable growth in economy, environment and education? How keeping the gender balance can end poverty and hunger or tackle climate change? We know that there is an intertwining relationship between all the 17 SDGs and most of them are interdependent. There are a number of arguments which prove that the gender equality and women empowerment are at the Centre of sustainable development. Unfortunately, though governments are developing policies to address inequality and tackle climate changes, the grassroot change is happening very slowly. If the needs of the people who not typically have a voice in decision making are not considered, it means that we are leaving out a large chunk of the population. Then how can we hope for sustainable development?

                                                                 Topic: Fostering Women in Leadership

This panel will discuss on how to empower and boost women’s confidence through professional development, thought leadership opportunities, fostering diverse communities, and how to propel women leaders into decision-making roles.

                                                                                     Abstract

IEEE WIE promotes the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. Through this, WIE builds a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.

In the recent years we see that female leadership trend is growing in many domains. But still much work has to be done towards true gender equality, especially in senior roles.
