Panel
The panel features prominent experts in various fields related to remote presence and virtualization of humans: from psychology and neuroscience to sensing, imaging and networking technologies, to art and music.
The panelists will discuss wide set of topics, related with the panel theme, such as: shall we transmit love and hate on remote presence platforms; who is our remote respondent; volumetric capture for the masses; 5G on the service of remote presence and remote operation; interactive media and distance learning of music and art. They will be keen to get questions from the audience and eventually portray the grand challenges in remote presence that are worth researching.
The panel will be held on Wednesday, 6 October, 2021 at 2:30pm-3:30pm (EEST)! Registered conference participants can follow the panel in person in Scandic Rosendahl Tampere or remotely on the conference virtual platform (trough their personalized links). Justin Trieger is the Director of New Media and Distance Education at the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy, and Co-Founder of Buskerfest Miami, an organization dedicated to improving civic life through public street performance. For the past 14 years, he has led the New World Symphony’s explorations with interactive media and has produced hundreds of educational activities and performances. He is also an accomplished multimedia artist, engineer and performer.

Mikko Sams is a professor of cognitive neuroscience in Aalto University and academic leader of MAGICS-Aalto and coordinator of the MAGICS infrastructure. He has studied neural mechanisms of human cognitive functions, from sensory processing to complex cognitive functions and experiences. In his research he is now he is focusing on the measurement of human experiences under naturalistic conditions and developing this research field in MAGICS-Aalto.
