Abstract – On Capabilities of the RTDS Simulator for HVDC and Power Electronics Applications

Modern power systems are dominated by power electronics apparatus. This has brought about many challenges for successful interconnection and integration of HVDC and power electronics apparatus into power systems. Real-time digital simulation is a great tool to address these challenges. This presentation covers some of the software and hardware capabilities of the RTDS simulator. These capabilities have provided high-fidelity Hardware-In-the-Loop testing and analysis tools for power engineers to design and rigorously test HVDC and power electronics apparatus under various scenarios prior to their deployment.
