Biography – Dr. Wei Li

Dr. Wei Li received a B.Eng. degree from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, in 1996, the M.Eng. degree from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree from McGill University, Montréal, QC, Canada, in 2010.

Since 2007, he has been a power system simulation specialist with OPAL-RT Technologies, in Montréal. He is the developer and the project owner of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) models for real time or fast simulation applications. In 2013 and 2014, as the representative of the test bench provider, he was involved in the HIL tests of MMC controllers in the Nan’ao and Zhoushan projects, the first two multi-terminal MMC HVDC projects in the world. His fields of research interest are in power electronics, renewable energy, and distributed generation. His current research focuses mainly on real-time simulation and controls of HVDC systems and FACTS devices. He has published more than 50 journal and conference papers on these topics.
