MMSP 2020 as a virtual event

Format

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, MMSP 2020 has been moved to a fully virtual conference. We have opted for a format where each contributed presentation is presented live during the original dates of the conference and on-demand after the conference concludes. Live presentations are backed up by pre-recorded videos, available in case of technical problems during the live sessions.

The workshop will consist of the following live sessions: plenaries, oral and poster sessions, session breakrooms, and a panel. In addition, participants are invited to virtually join places in Finland and Tampere and exercise with happy Finnish couches.

The conference will be run through an on-demand virtual platform (another site), where links to sessions and papers will be provided and off-line Q&A forum for discussions with authors will be operated.

Presentation of accepted papers will take place in live oral and poster sessions. An oral presentation is of the format 10+5 minutes, consisting of the presentation (10 minutes) and Q&A (5 minutes). A poster presentation is of format 5+0 minutes, consisting only of the presentation (essentially teasing the poster).

Sessions will be followed by breakrooms, one breakroom per session, where authors are expected to be present for one hour to answer questions and discuss their papers.

The conference program is organized in two blocks per day, to reflect the time differences and overlap of time zones between Asia, Australia, Europe and Americas. The blocks are referred to as ‘morning’ and ‘afternoon’ blocks with respect to the time zone of Tampere. In each block, the first two hours are for oral sessions, followed by the poster sessions, and the last hour is for the breakrooms for all authors in the preceding two sessions. Breakrooms will be created thematically around the preceded oral and poster sessions and moderated by a session chair. Plenaries will be run between the morning and afternoon blocks.

In order to have the paper indexed in IEEE Explore, authors must submit a pre-recorded videos of their presentations, must present their paper live in the allocated session, be available for discussion in the allocated breakroom, and answer questions in the off-line Q&A forum. In case of technical difficulties (internet connection interruptions, etc), the live presentation will be replaced by a pre-recorded presentation.

Video presentations

Authors are requested to prepare and upload a video of their presentation, comprised of a brief introduction with webcam, if desired, followed by voice over slides.

This will be posted within the presentation time slot on the MMSP 2020 on-demand virtual platform. The file must be a video file in MP4 format (more details below).

Our recommended approach to record a compatible video from content displayed on your computer screen and voice recorded via the computer microphone, is to record the presentation using Zoom, available to users on most platforms and in most countries.

Instructions for recording your presentation with Zoom: https://ieeetv.ieee.org/mobile/video/recording-your-presentation-with-zoom

For Authors located in China who are unable to access Zoom for free, use of the free software OBS, which allows also to capture simultaneously yourself while speaking and your slides: https://obsproject.com/

In order for videos to be verified by the technical program committee, there is considerable urgency in preparing and uploading your video.

Authors are asked to finalize and upload their videos no later than August 31, 2020. This is a HARD DEADLINE. Presentations will not be accepted after this date.

Guidelines for preparing your video:
