IEEE-UFFC is encouraging students and recent graduates in the field of ultrasound to attend the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium in 2019. Three events exclusively dedicated to students will be organized:

Student-Industry Networking Event

The objective of this networking event is to encourage and facilitate contact between graduate students finishing their PhD programs and industry members looking for PhD graduate positions. Job opportunities in the field of ultrasonics are varied and are often unknown to students. This event is a good opportunity to fill this gap.

The event will take place on Sunday, October 6th, from 7 pm to 10 pm and will have two parts. The first hour will be dedicated to speed-networking activity, where students will deliver elevator pitches to industry members in one-on-one rounds. A social reception will follow, for students and industry members to network casually.

Registration for this event will be at the same time as registration for the conference. The only prerequisite for registration is to intend to graduate from a PhD program within one year and to have an interest in an industry position. Places are limited and selected on a first-come first-serve basis.

Student-Professor Breakfast

This event is designed for student members to have the opportunity to network with the UFFC Society’s academic leaders over breakfast. The idea is to establish one-on-one conversations that will include topics such as career challenges in academia, post-doctoral positions, and advice related to specific research fields. Professors and students will be matched by common research topics.

This event will be held on Monday, October 7 from 7am to 8am.

Registration will be at the same time as registration for the conference. The only prerequisite for valid registration is to intend to graduate from a PhD program within one year and to have an interest in academia. Places are limited and selected on a first-come first-serve basis. In order to give the opportunity to all students, it will not be possible to register for both the Student-Industry Networking event and the Student-Professor Breakfast.

Student Lunch

All students attending the IUS conference are invited to participate in a complimentary lunch on Tuesday, October 8th from 12 noon to 1.30 pm. This is a great opportunity for students to network with future colleagues and meet senior members of the UFFC Society. In order to boost the event and to facilitate the speaking and contact between participants, a lunch activity will be organized.

Registration for this event will be at the same time as registration for the conference and is open to all students.

Through these events, the idea is to create a multidisciplinary student community and offer them opportunities for career development and improvement of networking skills.
