Carrie Root, Ph.D. (Engineering), CEO and Founder of Alpha UMi Inc, held engineering positions at Bolt, Beranek and Newman, IBM, the MITRE Corporation and other companies before becoming an independent engineering consultant for DoD and DoC for 25 years. Four years ago, she recognized that our workforce needed better tools for career success and sustainability and started her leadership, interpersonal, coaching and soft skills training curriculum development, Alpha UMi. This observation has been confirmed in the workforce skills gap studies conducted across the country, recognizing that the #1 skills gap is “soft skills.” Today her company’s innovative approach to addressing those skills gaps has resulted in transformative positive change for those individuals who have completed Alpha UMi’s 5G Leadership and Power Skills programs. 5G in this context recognizes that there are now 5 Generations working in the workforce which presents is own unique sets of challenges.
